Dorian Gray

Untitled_Artwork 1 4.jpg

For my Dorian Gray cover art, I had a bit more of a conceptual idea, being that I could create two cover arts that would layer on top of each other, so that both versions of Dorian Gray could be seen at the same time, showing Dorians decayed portrait through his youthful visage, to represent the duality of human natures explored in the book. I explored the themes in the book through the Victorian flower language, sketching the flowers that would best represent the themes of the narrative. I used these sketches to influence the iconography I used to decorate both covers.

I then went onto sketching out how I envisioned Dorian Gray, in his youthful appearance then his aged portrait. I particularly liked how the aged portrait came out; I really like how the linework and textures look in this piece. With these sketches I drew up my composition ideas, then using them to create a format that would allow for the portraits to be layered over each other.
