Carmilla

Untitled_Artwork 12_edited.jpg

For my Carmilla cover design I wanted to show my interpretation of how I envisioned the characters when I read the book. So, I began by sketching some clothing of the time period, as well as how I wanted Carmilla to look.

I then went onto developing my composition ideas, I liked several of the compositions, so I developed a few of them and combined elements from each design to get to my final composition idea. I then developed the linework and coloured the design.

I did a few end page patterns for this book, the first featuring a bat in the design, but upon re-reading the book I found that Carmilla doesn’t turn into a bat but rather a black cat. So I developed my second design featuring a moth as the central iconography, which I chose as moths are nocturnal animals like Carmilla.
